So what do you need to do to get the prizes?
I’m not going to use a point system on this contest (where you get points on doing certain tasks which will increase your chance in winning).

@Feabionsu: LOL, yes it certainly points back to Mike’s site, thus driving traffic to his site but it will not be counted as backlinks. I think as webmaster, we are guilty of wanting the best of both, if you know what I mean….
I begin to realize why you have to win this contest. I check on your site and it’s hosted by webs.com. I wouldn’t say that it’s a bad idea but you are serious about preserving your online profile, get yourself a domain (www.feabionsu.com is good) and keep it for life if you can. After all, it won’t cost you anything more than $10 a year.

Ah yes, I know what you mean about wanting the best of both! Though, since I haven’t been running a blog for years like Michael or you probably have, can your remind me the advantages of backlinks or inbound links or both, and what exactly they are?
As for the website that my username links too - I kind of gave up on it. Fans of the book series it’s based on still check it, and I do update it now and then, like with the contest - but you get bored of book series. And anyways, I have much better plans for the free domain name I hope I can win.
http://www.feabionsu.com is good, but preserving my online profile? Meh, I’m not too crazy about stuff like Facebook, YouTube, and other networking social sites - and I’m not as interested in letting people know who I am and my interest and everything, as I am in sharing the content I plan to write.
You’re right about the http://www.yourdomain.webs.com - it’s actually Freewebs, and it works if you’re just doing a small fansite about something or maybe a blog (though for that, I’d choose blogspot) - but for something big like I’m planning, that not only a few fans of the series will visit but a bigger, more general audience, you really need to represent yourself with a official .com. Or at least a .net. No .orgs for me! I’m not an organization!
And the new .me domain name? Urggh - definitely not! It’s good if your domain name is taken, since with a .me you now have the opportunity to register practically any domain name you always wanted, since it’s still new and not everything is taken… But obviously the other choices are much better!
As for simply buying a domain - I know it costs only 10 dollars a year, but the problem is, I don’t have a PayPal account! Well, actually, I did register, but I have no idea how to connect my bank account to it yet, and anyways, I’m not too trusty when it comes to giving your debit/credit card numbers…
So yes, http://www.feabionsu.com would be awesome indeed - but what would I share with the world that people would want to read and keep reading the next day? Of course, in a sense, it might be more useful than anything else, cause I would be able to post anything I want, rather than sticking only to one subject. But I’m not planning to write a blog, and like I said, if you ARE sticking to one subject, which I prefer, rather than having just an online profile where you stick everything together; then you really need to represent that subject with it’s own domain.
You’re in this contest too? Sorry for being surprised, it’s just I ddin’t realize that, since I don’t see any comments saying how you helped “spread the word about this contest” as Michael puts it! And also, I knew that you already had a domain name, so it never came to my mind that you might want another domain.
Well, of course every one wants a free domain - it’s free, and you have nothing to lose! But not everybody has the content, and it really does take work to keep two websites running! And also I didn’t realize that, because you kept commenting how /I/ should win it!
Oh, and my posts are long because I love responding to people who give their honest and thoughtful opinions on a subject, rather than just writing one line. My friends ALWAYS complain that I write emails too long - because obviously, they care more about using smileys and chatting…

Oh man - today’s scoop is a good one indeed! From one point of view, it might seem short or like no work at all, but really - you have to imagine how much time I spent on this. More than five minutes I can assure you that!
Today’s luck number is ten - that’s right, ten Yahoo questions about getting free domains answered, ten of your most interesting blog posts buzzed up on Yahoo Buzz, and ten questions answered at BlurtIt.com, a service similar to Yahoo Answers - but with more people, and more questions about domains of course!
Now I understand the buzz thing isn’t exactly related to the contest - but if people find your blog, there are big chances they’ll find your contest - and if not, at least you’ll still have another loyal commenter perhaps, another loyal subscriber!
The links! Coming up first is Yahoo Buzz… Oh, by the way, I have to tell you about something I don’t like about Buzz - perhaps you could blog about it Michael? Feabionsu, you really know some useful things to promote a website, I haven’t even heard about the things you use, next week I launch my new blog, maybe you can do some advertising there too, if you have some freetime
So today I stayed with old Yahoo Answers, and since the contest is almost over, I thought I send people to other areas of the site that I found useful.
And I liked Mike’s entrecard guide, so I made some suggestions to those who wanted to increase their blog traffic. Since the quesions are almost the same, I gave the same answer except some modifications here and there.
By the way, I really don’t understand these people. They rather make a question than search and choose from the hundreds of other best answers from the previous same exact questions. omg, omg, omg! But it’s none of my business. I’m happy I could help them

Thanks Rjani! I guess I do… though I knew about BlurtIt a long time ago, when I was trying to find a similar Yahoo Answers,but without registering a Yahoo Account. I’ve given up on it - simply because I don’t like spending all my time answering people’s questions just to get more “karma points”. I’d rather simply check Yahoo Answers to see if anybody answered my question before - like you recommended - cause somebody probably has!
But I’m not gong to do free advertising for you - I /don’t/ have the time, you see! Well, I might help you out - but only if there’s another free domain name contest in store for me!

And although I think it’s a very good idea to promote the site through such contests, it’s kinda sad that Michael offers 3 domain names+hosting now, and there are so few contestants, but the most surprising for me is there are only 18 diggs so far on the post…
Exactly - that’s barely worth anything on Digg! And the only two active contestants I see right now is me and you, Rjani! (Unless there’s people who just secretly email Michael what they did, cause they don’t want to share their techniques!)
I /did/ take it as a joke - I’m just bad at letting people know I understand their jokes… so everybody usually thinks I’m the last to catch on, though that’s not true!
Why do I need /another/ domain name? I never said I even had a first one!
Well, if you count the seekersfan.webs.com thing - but that’s not a real domain name, just a fan website! And like I said, I’m pretty quits with that website, so it’ll be one domain after all! As to why I need it - to build a website I’m passionate working on of course! Something that’ll be updated regularly, and that’ll keep my visitors coming back every time!
Yep, I got ideas, that’s for sure! But you’ll have to wait to find out - it’s going to be a surprise. To you, to Michael, to everyone!

Back to the tiny number of Diggs though - really, Digg isn’t important to me, as much as before, anyways. I used to value it for the number of visitors it could bring to my site, but since Yahoo Buzz recently launched, I found much more advantages in it, than Digg.
For one thing, more people have a Yahoo account than a Digg one, no matter how popular a social networking site Digg might be. Secondly, I saw a buzz submission in the Top Content (basically on the front page of Yahoo Buzz) and it only had 9 buzzes! Would Digg ever feature something with 9 diggs on their home page? I don’t think so!
And then of course, if getting your content on the front page of Yahoo Buzz isn’t good enough, then there’s the huge possibility that, with enough buzzes, your blog/website might be featured on the front page of Yahoo.com, simply because many people buzzed it!
And yet, there’s even less buzzes than there of Digg’s about this contest - so it /is/ a bit disappointing, I agree Rjani…

No! That WOULD be so evil! If you would, I’d probably just leave! Seriously. That’s why it’s kind of a good for me that the contest is ending pretty soon - I do work hard on those “scoops”, but it’s time I got to work on my own website, domain or not! I wouldn’t even mind even if the contest ended today! My previous “scoops” should count for something and I’ve given as much effort and work to this contest as I possibly could, at least for the time period since I joined.
Another evil idea would be that Michael just hosted this contest so people like Feabionsu advertise for him, when really, he doesn’t have any free domain names to give away and plans to pretend to give the prizes to imaginary winners! I don’t know if that’s being done before (probably has been) but that would be evil indeed for Michael.
