Monetize your empty 125×125 ad slots!

If you are trying to earn some money from your blog via the 125×125 sponsor ads, you may find that your 125×125 slots are not always “full”. Some time you may only get 1 or 2 private advertisers for your blog, even though you are assigning 6 slots for the 125×125 banners.
So what do you usually do with the empty slots?
- Leave it blank?
- Put a 125×125 “Advertise here” banner?
- Put Performancing Ads banners? (which doesn’t pay you anything but you are in fact helping them to make money through their banners)
There is a newer & better option now: to put a 125×125 banner from ViralBlogAds and when someone clicks on the banner, you will get paid (just like Google’s AdSense, but this is for a 125×125 image ad)!
Consider reading this post to find out more about ViralBlogAds if you don’t like having empty 125×125 ad slots on your blog!
ViralBlogAds is in Pre-Launch stage so you’d better hurry up and register. Being the first allows you:
- To gain early exposure on the system (because not many people are in it yet)
- To be eligible in their pre-launch contest (prizes are to be announced)
- To be the first in getting affiliates (you’ll get 15% out of your affiliates commission for life!)
- To start making money by filling your empty 125×125 slots with something else better
Putting the banner ads is very easy. You just choose the rows and columns on the ad code generator, copy-paste the given code, and that’s it.

The best way to use ViralBlogAds is this:
- Let’s say you have assigned 6 slots of 125×125 banners for your advertisers.
- You should monetize 5 of them immediately with ViralBlogAds by displaying the banners. If someone clicks on one of the banner, you’ll get some pennies.
- Put your “Advertise here” banner on the last slot. This way, you are giving a chance for a real private advertiser to contact you and put their banner on the slot. The other 5 slots are not there to just give you money through the clicks, but also giving a good impression that your slots are popular! It will look quite unprofessional if you are displaying 6 empty slots altogether.
A win-win situation for everyone! Your blog looks more professional, you can get some money out of your empty slots, but at the same time you are also giving an empty slot a chance for direct private advertising. When someone buys that slot, repeat the process above (so you’ll have 1 private advertiser banner, 4 slots of ViralBlogAds banner, and 1 Advertise Here banner)
I hope you can get my point above. ViralBlogAds at the moment, is the only way to monetize your 125×125 banner slot (unless you’ve found another good program, please let me know).
Not to mention that if you are using the OIOPublisher plug-in to manage your private advertisers automatically, you can optimize it with ViralBlogAds (still under development though).
Register for ViralBLogAds now (affiliate link hidden inside
) before you are left behind and start making money from your 125×125 ad slots (I was told that we’ll get 70% payout when someone clicks on a banner). I haven’t confirmed this yet, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to try, does it? Oh I almost forgot that there is also the 468×60 option besides the 125×125.
See you in the program

Frank Gils last blog post..Jenna Jameson Is Pregnant
Great info!
Actually, I was advertising for 180 x 80 spot for $3 a month and that’s the only ad spot I’ve got in my blog. By the way, you’ve got nice 125 x 125 ad spots. If you look at my blog, 125 x 125 ad will seem a bit too small in my sidebar which is perfect for 180 width.
Enfotainers last blog post..Go Digital With Digital Photo Frames!
Well mine was quite small too when I downloaded the theme. I made a small adjustment to the overall width, especially the sidebar so it can fit 3 columns of 125×125 ads.
As for your blog, if you really want it, you can either adjust the width or put like a row of 125×125 ads on top, before your post starts
Mike,
I am going to give it a test drive like the many other online services. In 2 months I will blog about it and give credit to you as well.
Frank Js last blog post..Why Agile Development Fails
Really good post! Buzzed it, reddited it, and enjoyed reading it! I think all of these tips about advertising and managing a site/blog will come in handy when I have my own website!
P.S. I got a Gravatar! I followed the instructions you gave in one of those old blog posts where you told people how to get a gravatar – I didn’t see any changes for a few days, but now my own gravatar beside my nickname!

I was waiting till they come out of private beta. And finally! They are here. Thanks for letting us know! Probably not the best time when Performancing Ads are also doing well for a lot of bloggers. But still, it’s all good. Another monetizing option:)

Thanks Michael I signed up using your affiliate link. Now all I need to do is ad a couple more spots for my own so people can buy.
Do you think it would be better to set em up for people to purchase with cash or through EC’s?
Just wondering

@Feabionsu: It was my fault that your gravatar didn’t show up before
It’s a long story lol
@Jeremy: A mix is better. Entrecarders usually prefer to pay with Entrecard credits.
@Roel: Yeah it was down for about 15 minutes too in the afternoon. Guess the slowdown was the symptom before it went down
Thanks guys for joining under my affiliate. Let’s bring those pennies to our pockets hehe (and yes Nihar, the same goes with my Performancing Ads. So I took it out from my blog)
Signed up using your affiliate link, ads now live on my blog.
Thanks.
Geoservs last blog post..Pliggs Update!
Good info, but does this work for Blogspot?
So You Want To Be a Banquet Manager
banquet managers last blog post..Italian Cookies…
Thanks for the advertising tip. I’ll give ViralBlogAds a go.
@Geoserv: Thanks for the kindness.
@Banquet: It’s a Javascript code. I’m not too sure how flexible can you be on Blogspot but I assume you can, as long as you can copy paste some Javascript codes on your theme file
@AshChuan: Hope that it can give you some clicks!
I just got setup for OIO Publisher and ViralBlogAds. OIO Publisher has ViralBlogAds built in for filling the empty ad space. I tried to activate, but ViralBlogAds isn’t quite ready yet. It is a great idea to put empty ad space to work, that is for sure.
cool!
it sounds interesting. maybe i should give it a try. thanks for links

Great article!
It may be useful for my new blog, and keep it up please, my favorite posts on this blog are those that introduce me to new, useful stuff I haven’t heard before, like this one. Thanks!
I`m on blogspot…So I dont think I can use it… SAD
ShaDows last blog post..How to Prevent Spam by using TinyMail
@Squeaky: Yeah it’s still under development when I asked about it. They are not officialy launched yet so if we can get in as early birds, might be worth it in the long run, though
@Scart + rjani: You’re welcome and a few clicks is better than having empty slots, I guess
@ShaDow: I thought you can copy-paste Javascript codes on Blogspot? I don’t know, I left Blogspot months ago for WordPress..
Could you tell us approximately how much a click pays?
Or it depends on the advertiser?
The problem is, you have to wait for 14 days for the clicks to be validated by the system. Therefore I can’t check it now (not yet)
I was told it will be a percentage, depends on the advertiser. So hopefully it’s something good
this is great advice. when i visit a blog with an empty ad spot of this size, i sometimes think that maybe no one wants to advertise there, so it puts a bit of a dent in that blogs reputation. but with this service, it’s easier for blogs to fill in those slots in a professional looking manner, and yet there’s still some flexibility.
Yup. Or you can always do some banner exchange for a week to fill up those spots temporarily
Sounds pretty cool, I’ll have to check it out! Yeah, performancing was a waste of time. I would get paid, but they would steal ad time on my site. Goodbye performancing!
It would be a wise idea to put something in the vacant spot. Pay per click may work. I use a few pay per lead ads that seem to perform pretty well. Thanks for sharing.
Matt
Pay Per Lead ads work well too (although I never had any conversions so far yet)
