Taking screenshots with Vista, the easy way

I was reading a forum post earlier during the day and there were a few people talking about how to use the Print Screen button to take screenshots in Windows Vista. There were a few posts going on about it. So I replied them “STOPP!!! Haven’t you guys heard about Windows Vista built-in tool to take screenshots?”
It wasn’t that dramatic or rude, but my point is, why goes the hard way if there is an easier way?
If you are using Windows Vista and you didn’t know about “Snipping Tool”, then you have come to the right place.
Windows Vista Snipping Tool is a built-in tool in Windows Vista. To access it, simply search for it (Click on the Windows Start button and type “snip”)
There are four types of snip that you can do: Free-form, Rectangular, Window, and a Full Screen snip.
You should be able to figure it out from here. However, go to the Windows Vista Snipping Tool help page if you want to find out more about this tool!

Thanks for this tip, Michael. I have just started using Vista but have learned little of its new features as yet.

Hi, I have vista Home Basic and I’m having some issues. I type in Snip or snipping or snipping tool, in the search bar in the start menu, put it doens’t pop up. What do I do?
Hi Bob,
After searching through Google, I found out that Vista Home Basic doesn’t have SnippingTool installed
I’d suggest to use SnagIt though. It’s a powerful screenshot capture tool. Or hopefully anyone here can suggest other good capture tools available.
How come when I try to take a snippet, I always get black lines through the snip? Thanks
Tom
Black lines through the snip? Weird..never encountered/heard that problem before. Have you tried all the 4 snipping types and got the same result?
Yes it does it in all the types, I even tried a couple different snipping programs with the same results. So it is something to do with my computer whether it is something in Vista or not. I am using Home Premium.
That’s weird, Tom… I guess some things that you can try:
- Check for Spyware
- Update your Video Card driver
- Install Vista Service Pack 1 if you haven’t
- Maybe try running the snipping programs in Safe Mode? If it works, then there’s something installed on your Windows that is causing the problem
Hm..
