WordPress 2.6 Beta 1 is available for you to download! (This blog is using the WordPress blogging system). The question is, who wants to be a scapegoat?
I’d love to try it myself, but I’ve enjoyed the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plug-in too much that I’m just too lazy to do a manual update and backup.
Read more to find out what’s new in this version (surely exciting features)!
From Ryan’s Boren page, what’s new in 2.6:
- Post Revisioning
- A “Press This” bookmarklet for tumblelog style quick posting
- Caching of static files with Gears for faster Admin page loads
- A new and improved image editing dialog that offers lots of control over the images in your posts
- Theme previewing as seen on WordPress.com
- Built-in word counting in the post editor
- The ability to disable remote publishing for the security conscious
- XML-RPC API for changing blog options
- Better SSL support for the Admin
- Hierarchy-aware paging in the Manage Pages and Manage Categories admin pages.
- The ability to relocate your content directory
- The ability to move wp-config.php out of your web root
- Drag-and-drop sortable galleries
- Customizable default avatars
- Bulk delete, activate, and deactivate for plugins
- Check box range selection with shift-click
- TinyMCE 3.1.0.1 with lots of bug fixes
- jQuery 1.2.6 with some nice performance improvements
- jQuery UI 1.5
- Lots of bug fixes and performance improvements
I may try downloading and installing it on my other blog to check the new features (it’s still a new blog and I’ve left it for weeks
).
If you want to download and try it yourself, go ahead!

Blog2u Philippiness last blog post..Calling All Filipino Bloggers
I have been acquainted and so used with blogger and blogspot. I actualy admire so much how wordpress functions but I don’t have any idea how to have one. Moreover, I see others in blogspot that have wordpress themes and i don’t really have any idea how they got it. Does anyone who uses the theme have to purchase it? (or win it)?
It does seem that the majority of the changes are on the security side. This is a good thing. As for downloading it in beta version, I am too scared and far too lazy. You have got me thinking though, I might just give it a whirl on my second blog, if that crashes it is not the end of the world. I will be watching with interest to see if others have downloaded and what the findings are.

@BLog2u: Really?? You make me want to use it even more! I never mind using Beta applications to test and see what’s new. I’m always excited about it
@Webloglearner: I left Blogger to WordPress months ago
I don’t think you can use WordPress themes on blogspot, though, unless someone purposely “converts” them
@Sailor: That’s what I’m going to do, maybe tonight or tomorrow. See how my mood goes heh heh
Actually, I’ve just finished upgrading my blog to WordPress 2.6 Beta 1
Might post up an impression of what’s changed probably tomorrow/the day after
I actually posted a reply to your reply before but it did not went up and I reveived an error message. I do hope this one will go ok, but if not, I am going to inform you of the error.
What I was saying was, if you were in blogspot before/blogger before, you did not encounter on having problems? Maybe you could help me with the domain name i purchased around a month ago that I could not put into function.
Blogger claims that if one purchase from them, it will automatically function but after 3 days of wait, nothing happened but an error page.
Do you have any idea on this? At least you were a blogger before. ^_^
Thank you.
-Rogue-
I got it now
I’ve ditched my old anti-spam comments plug-in with this new one. Hopefully it’s not too cumbersome with the captcha (I still have to test whether spams can get through, though)
I’m sure you have read http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=76543?
According to it, things should work automatically though
Did you get a confirmation email or any account information at all after the purchase? I’ll send you an email so that we can discuss better
I’m not sure, maybe I will just wait for the stable version. The autoupdate plugin is really helpful anyway.
dianis last blog post..Prepare Your Mentality Before You Learn How to Make money Online
The truth is, i have all. From receipt of google checkout plus a google apps account, I have these two with me. I have read all applicable blogger help but to no avail.
The reality is, these are what I did:
1. I purchsed the domain which is http://www.webloglearner.com with all the necessary receipts etc.
2. I purchased from blogger itself to avoid hassles
3. As adviced by blogger, i have to wait up to three days (but might be lower than this).
4. I waited for 80 hours )3 days and six hours)
5. On the second day, when I click my posts, they are automatically redirected to my custom domain and the blogspot is taken away but a 404 error comes out.
6. To solve my error and problem in number 5, I manually type back in the original blogspot url to locate my file
7. Readers were already complaining that they see 404, i just sent them the old blogspot url in understanding that if I wait 3 days, they will be okay.
8.After that waiting I had, even I type in my url, it does not show anymore. Even the homepage link/url was automatically directed to my domain and I could not find anything. I got furious and was confused on what to do.
9. I went back to my settings (I can access at the
blogger the settings but not the file url) and RESUMED TO BLOGSPOT and unchecked the CUSTOM Dmain selection.
10. After some time, I tried checking back the custom domain in blogger but to no avail anymore. I receive an error message that such DOMAIN IS ALREADY HOSTED AT BLOGGER’s BLOGSPOT.
11. Until now, I am at lost. I love that domain, I can buy another but I want the http://www.webloglearner.com because, well, that is my blog!
H,,. maybe you have any idea Mike or some of your buddies, I am willing to share my google apps username and password if anyone can help me. Thanks.
i don’t think i can handle converting blogging engine any time soon , plus i’m too happy the way i am now .
but i might install it ona subdomain just for fun and testing it
