| Customer Reviews: huge change in my life for the better! September 29, 2009 Gary G. Kish (Northville,MI) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Betaine HCL has changed my life! I started taking one tablet before a meal (or garbage snack food) about a week ago. For about the last 25 years I would always get tired after eating or even sick feeling with bloating and gas. Loose stools were also part of the fun. This stopped completely. I can eat a large meal (pizza, meat, fried foods) without getting tired or sick.
I am not snacking every 20 mins anymore because I am not always hungry like I was before. The more I google and read up on low stomach acid, the more I believe almost everyone I know in my age group (45) and above suffer from it. My family and friends who would try it are having the same positive reactions. It has allowed my Mother to sleep though the night, something she has not done in the last 10 years.
I believe we were starving, which is why I always felt tired and hungry. I sound like a crazy man telling my friends and family how much better I feel eating acid pills before my meals, but it's true. Google it yourself. There is a chart online that shows by 40 we are producing 50% less stomach acid than we did at 10yrs of age. I remember when I was young I could eat anything without feeling the way I have before I started taking this with meals. It's like being young again
Anti acid pills and meds make it much worse. By not having enough stomach acid we are moving undigested food though our body, allowing parasites and other harmful things to grow in our intestines, making us sick. They have linked so many things to low stomach acid it's scary.
Proper stomach acid stops all of this from happening. Imagine how much more energy you will have by fully digesting the food you eat. I am a true believer for this product! I am not a nut. (re-reading this I know I sound like one)
Update 12.19.2009 Still works great for me. Chris I tried to reply to you but the amazon link wasn't working. Betaine worked instantly for me. I tried it at breakfast the first time and didn't get sick. Before Betaine, I always have felt a little "sicky" after eating breakfast in the morning. That was gone that day from 1 pill and has been gone at every meal since. No lose stools either. No matter what I eat (4 pieces of greasy deep fried chicken the other day). This product made a more profound difference in my life than anything I've ever tried.
Cured my chronic heartburn December 12, 2009 Alejandro Antonio Diaz 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I'm 29 yrs old & have been on PPI's for over 3 years. My primary and G.I. Dr.'s had no idea why I had chronic heartburn. I decided to try quitting my daily 40mg's Omeprazole using apple cider vinegar. There's a theory that the Lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a ph sensitive valve which closes tighter as the PH of the stomach lowers. By drinking ACV when you have heartburn, the ph lowers drastically and the LES shuts tight thus preventing acid from entering the esophagus. Well, this completely worked for me. The problem is I was drinking about 1/2 cup of barely diluted ACV per day which burns like whiskey going down and is bad for tooth enamel.
I read the book "why stomach acid is good for you" by Jonathan Wright & Lane Lenard which is required reading for heartburn/gastric sufferers. It appears that most people get chronic heartburn and a myriad of other gastric disorders because of insufficient acid production. This flies in the face of the medical establishment whom say the problem is too much acid. Before I switched from ACV to Betaine HCL, I visited both my primary DR. who then referred me to my G.I. Dr. They both said the following, "I do not recommend you take that" (betaine hcl). They did not tell me why & they never heard of the supplement.
Because the ACV worked pretty well, and because the more acid (vinegar) I would ingest the less heartburn I would feel, I disobeyed my Doctors orders. I bought the HCL and took it as outlined in the book above. For "Nexium quality" hearburn relief and optimal digestion I need 4 pills during every meal. The label says one per meal but it all depends on how much acid you need. Again, gotta read the book. I took my last omeprazole more than a month ago, I no longer drink vinegar and am heartburn free.
This product has been a complete miracle for me. Granted, I have to take the pills, but it's much better supplementing a substance your body is not producing enough off than to take some pharmaceutical that does something completely unnatural (turns off your gastric acid secretion by over 90%). I have a tremendous amount of energy now, I need less sleep, I'm not as hungry. I am completely amazed that all I needed was a little more stomach acid.
I have no idea why Dr.'s don't know about Betaine HCL & low stomach acid. Stomach acid secretion sounds so fundamental and they just completely ignore it, it's crazy. Anyway, highly recommend the product.
good supplement for those that need it. November 12, 2009 E. Hayes (Oregon) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ignore the 1 star review about Dairy. If you don't want dairy in a product, you should read the label before purchasing it. In that reviewer's case, the 1 star does not reflect the quality of the product, but rather them buying the wrong product.
Also, We've been taking this for a long time and I never noticed any dairy in it.
We take this brand of HCl with meals. It is one of the better quality and cost Betaine HCls out there.
You should know whether you need extra help digesting food, and if you do, this is a good product.
Miracle in a bottle! May 30, 2010 S. Tolley (Arizona) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been using B-H for years, and recommending it to many over age 40. Amazon of course has a great price and free shipping so it's my new source now for this product too.
Years ago when my meals began causing more and more gas and indigestion, I typically reached first for antacids. When that didn't work I went to the dr. and had an upper GI test (yum, what tasty chalk!), but results were normal. Of course, the doc whipped out the Rx-pad anyway for something called Propulsid, which was nasty stuff that I quit after just one dose!
So, I got online and started researching my symptoms myself. I soon came upon the wonder of B-H and have never looked back. I've even had a lady throw her arms around me soon after telling her about it because she claimed it changed her life!
When will medical science realize we need MORE stomach acid as we age, not ANTacids. Oops, that's right... you don't need a Rx for b-h, so it won't happen (wink).
Anyway, BIG (bloating, indigestion, gas) is no longer a problem! I've got my personal dosage dialed in now at 1 pill for a light meal, 2 for an average plate, and 3 for a buffet indulgence. A bit more at first helped kickstart everything though.
Like the famous sneaker ads say... Just Do It!
Has milk/dairy October 22, 2009 Tiberius (Fulton) 5 out of 14 found this review helpful
Allergy alert: I always check the product description and what I see on this product description is that they left out the fact milk/dairy is in it. For some people that can cause constipation and pain, or other allergy responses. It doesn't list magnesium stearate but it is a milk/dairy based pill. If you have an allergy to milk products in any form this is to be avoided.
