| Customer Reviews: My osteoporosis has improved! August 27, 2010 E. A. Getchell (Palma Sola, Florida) I think vitamin mineral supplements are difficult to judge. How can one be really sure that they are working, that the body is absorbing them, that the benefit is worth the cost?
When it comes to calcium magnesium, I can say with confidence that Deva Vegan Vitamins Calcium, Magnesium Plus (Pack of 2) is indeed beneficial.
I was diagnosed 2 years ago with advanced osteoporosis. At the time I was a 55 year old woman with the bones of an 85 year old. My doctor said the numbers from my bone density test couldn't have been worse. His strict orders were once-a-month Actonel, calcium magnesium supplement with vitamin D and weight bearing exercise.
I am a long time vegan so my diet was already correct and has my doctor's blessing but I was in a quandary concerning calcium magnesium supplements. I was overwhelmed by the selection at my local health food store and daunted by the sky high pricing. I was also concerned about the source of the calcium and wanted to be sure that my supplement was vegan. I found a vegan product that I liked very much (Rainbow Light Bones for Life) but it's very expensive and I couldn't find it any longer at Amazon, where I found it much cheaper than at the health food store pill emporium.
Deva Vegan Vitamins Calcium, Magnesium Plus (Pack of 2) came up in my Amazon recommendations so I decided to give it a try. It seemed to good to be true that I had found a vegan supplement at such a reasonable price but, my goodness, this product is fantastic!
My second bone density test showed marked improvement! Of course the combination of things that I'm doing for my osteoporosis is certainly responsible for the improvement in my bones but I have every confidence that my body is indeed absorbing this wonderful supplement and that it is critical for further reversal of my osteoporosis, along with the Actonel, my calcium-rich raw vegan diet, and walking two miles every day in this beautiful Florida sunshine.
I am not a believer in taking vitamin supplements, preferring to get my nutrition naturally from my healthy diet, so it is unlikely that I'll be trying the other supplement products in the Deva line. However I do give Deva Vegan Vitamins Calcium, Magnesium Plus (Pack of 2) my enthusiastic endorsement. Not only is it proven to be beneficial for me but the pricing here at Amazon's Subscribe and Save program is incredible. I'm so happy Amazon recommended this great supplement!
Great Vegan Supplement January 25, 2010 quirky book lover (New Jersey) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Love the opportunity to have a vegan version of this supplement. Ultimately you want the calcium/magnesium, not all the non-vegan junk found in many other capsules.
At first I thought it was a good deal... March 19, 2010 Curtis G (OC, CA, USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
On the recommendation of Dr. Oz (on TV, not personally), I started looking for a calcium/magnesium supplement to help with fat loss. Dr. Oz believes people should take 1200mg of calcium daily (with 600-700 mg of magnesium to prevent constipation from the calcium). One serving of the Deva Cal-Mag Plus provides 1000mg of calcium and 400 mg of magnesium, so while they don't match exactly, I figured two servings would cover it. (Plus, I'm a big guy.) Even though I'm an unrepentant carnivore, I like organic/vegan supplements. I thought I was getting a pretty good deal, even taking two of them a day, but I just realized that one serving is THREE pills. (It's right there on the label, so I take full responsibility for missing it.)
These pills are some of the largest I've seen, so I'm not looking forward to choking down four of them a day. (Thanks to another customer, I just realized that I don't have to take two full servings; four pills will give me 1332mg of calcium.) When I run out of pills I will evaluate whether they contributed to my goals, but at this point it seems likely that I will be looking for a more cost-effective (and smaller) solution. And I will read the label more carefully.
A bonus star to Deva for putting a picture of the actual label on Amazon, something most other vendors don't do. How can we make informed decisions without all the information? Well done, Deva.
Favorite calcium but a little expensive March 11, 2010 H. Nguyen 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this to be an excellent source of calcium that you can use but it is priced a little more expensive than I would like. Calcium is important to help prevent osteoporosis.
