Amazon.com Product Description

Call of Duty is back, redefining war like you’ve never experienced before. Building on the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War immerses players into the most gritty and chaotic WWII combat ever experienced. Players band together to survive the most harrowing and climactic battles that led to the demise of the Axis powers on the European and Pacific fronts. The title offers an uncensored experience with unique enemies and combat variety, including Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning cover tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action through the all new four-player cooperative campaign. The addictive competitive multiplayer has also been enhanced with new infantry and vehicle-based action, a higher level cap, more weapons, and a host of new Perks, maps and challenges.

Features:

New Enemies, Environments and Tactics: Face off against ruthless and tactically advanced enemies that will stop at nothing to defend their homelands, from swamp ambushes and tree-top snipers to fearless Kamikaze attacks. Play as a U.S. Marine and Russian conscript across a variety of Pacific and European locations against the fearless Imperial Japanese and elite German soldiers in epic adrenaline-filled infantry, vehicle and airborne missions.

Co-Op Campaign Mode, Call of Duty Style: For the first time in the franchise, Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-op play, bringing fresh meaning to “No One Fights Alone”. Campaign co-op features up to four-players online, or two-player local split-screen, allowing gamers to experience harrowing campaign missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. Co-op mode incorporates innovative multiplayer components such as challenges, rankings and online stats for deeper re-playability and multiplayer experience bonuses. Co-op mode also features Competitive Co-Op that will show who is really the best player on your team.

Enhanced Multiplayer: Call of Duty: World at War continues the class-based multiplayer action the series is famous for. The addition of vehicle combat with tanks rounds out the multiplayer experience, and features such as persistent stats, player rankings, upgradeable weapons, squad-based gameplay, customizable classes and Perks, have been further enhanced.

The Call of Duty Experience: Call of Duty: World at War utilizes cutting-edge technology including highly-detailed character models, self-shadowing, environmental lighting and amazing special effects to deliver jaw-dropping visuals. Depth of field, rim-lighting and texture-streaming technology bring the adrenaline-pumping combat to life, while physics-enabled battlefields and fire that spreads through environments realistically immerses players into the harrowing and dynamic combat.

5 out of 5 stars COD has done a good job again   February 5, 2009

All I can say is I am still playing it and it is cool with the zombies, flame thrower, bazooka and bayonet action. Graphic are good especially when you use the flame thrower. Thank God they made a PC version I have them all now and hope the next one they dont wait to put it out in PC as well as Xbox playstation versions. The game is worth playing.

5 out of 5 stars Superb game, true to the series   March 9, 2009

I bought Call of Duty World at War when it come out, and I must say I was very surprised at how good a job Treyarch had done. I really despised their previous efforts, which weren't anywhere near as good as Infinity Ward's - but that is no longer the case.

Call of Duty World at War is extremely innovative. Your using the same engine as Call of Duty 4, so the graphics and feel are superb - but combine this with some of their addons, which makes this game quite unique. How many games do you get chased down by a pack of dogs in multiplayer? Sounds bad doesn't it? Sounds like it wouldn't work very well - well it works brilliantly. The guns are great and there are a good mix of snipers, SMG's, shotguns, MG's and rifles. The perks are also very interesting.

I love this game, as much as I did Call of Duty 4 - the only downside is some people haven't bother to try it out, as a result I often found myself playing on my own on Xbox Live - as some of my friends were still playing Call of Duty 4.

If you had difficulty mastering the multiplayer aspect of Call of Duty 4, I recommend you read the book I have written "An Unofficial Guide to Call of Duty World at War: How to Win at Multiplayer" - I'd also check out the Bradygames guide, well worth getting if you like all the information to do with weapons/perks at your fingertips.

Overall 5/5 :)

Go out and buy it!

5 out of 5 stars COD: World At War   June 24, 2009

Got this game for my son first. Didn't see him for a week. One day he asked me to watch for "a sniper on a roof" while he did his thing and I was blown away. This game is awesome. The single player is great. The multi-player is even better. I had to get it for myself. Great stress reliever after a long day. Now, my wife hasn't seen me for a few weeks. And, might have to wait a few more.

5 out of 5 stars Bad Press, Great Game!   December 19, 2008

I have seen the hordes of negative reviews for Call of Duty World at War and, quite frankly, I am amazed. This game is fantastic! I am a huge CoD fan and this game did not let me down. I must add that I only play single-player mode so I can't comment on the online play.

The game has a similar feel to previous CoD titles where you switch back and forth between different forces to fight battles with the enemy. Fighting in the climax of the great World War II and charging the Reichstag in Berlin gave me chills! The voice acting is superb (featuring none other than Jack Bauer!), the levels are well designed and varied. There is a nice mix between running around on foot, driving a tank and manning the guns on a flying fortress.

My recommendation is to give this game a chance. It really is a lot of fun. Other games I love are CoD1/2/4, Far Cry, BF1942, Bioshock, Medal of Honor series (all) just to give you a feel for what I like. So, ease up guys, the game is good. Go play it!

5 out of 5 stars A good addition to the CoD games.   December 30, 2008

There are so many bad reviews for this game and I'm sitting here scratching my head as to why.

I'm a fan of the Call of Duty series, I thought CoD 4 was an amazing game and while World at War isn't as spectacular I think its a solid addition to the series.

I do agree with some of the reviews about the limitations of the maps, I did expect more in terms of an 'open world' kind of design, instead of invisible walls at the edges of the trench or path. However I think the ridiculous graphics make up for it. Also the sound is fine, actually I think it's pretty awesome and up-to-par with any other good FPS.

The story is long enough to enjoy, I actually think its LONGER then Call of Duty 4. The story has more detail, the videos are more entertaining, and I think there's more to the game in the solo experience when compared to CoD 4. The Co-op multiplayer is not something you see very often in a FPS, I think it's ground breaking and it's a lot of fun.

I'm running a Dell Studio desktop with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor, 6GB DDR2, BFG nVidia GeForce 9800GT OC - I had no problems installing this game and it runs flawlessly at high resolutions with the settings cranked up.

I'm giving it a 5 out of 5 to offset some of the unfair reviews it has been given, this is a good game.
